BASEBALL SCORING BENCH:  STILL HERE!

The scorer's bench behind the backstop of the old baseball field in Tahoe Park is an important neighborhood artifact. The wire cage surrounding the infield is a fanciful replica of the design of Yankee Stadium with a wedding cake layering of arches and other turns.

The bench itself, which was used by the former club Golden Seniors, tallied the hits and scoring of a number of retired professional baseball players. One local, the late Bob Nelson, who played

in the minor leagues, was an inductee of the La Salle Club.
