FRESNO COUNTY FRUIT TRAIL STANDS

🥖🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓 In April, the Fresno County Fruit Trail begins with fifteen or more fruit stands. Strawberries are the dominant April crop at this stands. HWY 99 gets you to Fresno. However, the best farmers' markets are in Fowler or Sanger a few miles southeast of Fresno.   Maps of the Fresno trail can be found online. Simply google Fresno County Fruit Trail. The trick to finding a decent trail, though, is to follow King's Canyon Road out of Fresno.  The watershed at Sanger along this Canyon Road is full of hiking opportunities. The further your trailhead is away from Fresno, the more privacy. I found that this is the best time to be in Fresno, which gets really hot and polluted (from fires) in the summer season. The early crop season for strawberries adds a touch of healthy food.

LYNCH CANYON REGIONAL PARK:DUAL USE FOR VIETNAM ERA VETS

Image
The upper trail at Lynch Canyon twenty miles west of Travis AFB is a B plus for veterans. The trail has a slight elevation but the path is well groomed.  The upper trail leading to the small reservoir is best for good exercise and a reflective and peaceful time. The mixed use nature of the trail includes ducks, livestock and a plethora of native birds. This walk is green most of the winter and early part of the spring. Returning the next day with a full moon, I took the lower trail through the hills. This trail just west of yesterday's trek was full of private spots and benches. Good for either meditation or Qi Gong.

ANDERSON MARSH FOR VETERANS

Image
March 25, 2022 Anderson Marsh in Lake County provides a flat, one or two mile hike. The State of California charges a parking fee, though, and there is limited public transportation access. (see the California Veterans Resourc Book for possible fee waiver possibilities). The photograph taken above captures part of the walk along a low crest of hills. The elevation gain, however, is only of mild (one or two level) levels. More importantly, the pitch of elevation gain is very gradual. The crest hike itself is probably less than a mile. Vietnam Era Veterans with slight disability can test the trail from perfectly flat levels. The veterans service office in Lake County can be reached at 707 263 2384. Other hikes are available in Lake County (to be explored in other visits by the Trekker program.

Walk the Ferry Building

From January 10, 2022 A walk at the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street rates an A- from the Whole Health Trek Finder (AKA  The Whole Health Vet Trekker Program). Access to the Ferry Building on the S.F. Embarcadero includes multiple options. This includes the commuter ship from the Port of San Francisco, but also by BART or Uber. A mile or two mile trek includes the usually temperate embarcadero walk which is level and cooled by a nice sea breeze. Benches are prevalent for short rests. Vendors of fresh food abound in the area, especially the farmers market on weekends. On my exploration for Whole Health, I found that a good eating option was Pier 23 about a mile up the embarcadero toward Fisherman's Wharf.  Seating is indoor and outdoor with good, comfortable chairs. The place is a former Blues mecca for the area and reeks with a sense of history.  For older veterans such as myself, I recommends the sea ferry from S East Bay if you are coming from outside t...
